3/13/2017 0 Comments final reflectionWhen I think about my time in this class, I immediately think about how much I've improved as a photographer. When we walked in on the first day I barely knew what the aperture was, and only knew about shutter speed because of dance pictures. In the photos I considered to be "good" at the beginning of this class, I used auto mode on the camera, never thought about composition elements, and most of the time they were blurry. Now I am proud to say that I can shoot in full manual mode, and put a lot of thought into the composition of my pictures today. Example: Worst Photo vs. Best Photo In the photo on the left, there is no subject, the image is not straight, the lighting is off, and it it just plain boring. But, on the image to the right, the plant is the focus, there is a depth of field because of the aperture settings, the image is clear while the wind is blowing because of the shutter speed, and adjustments were made in Photoshop to further enhance the image. Another thing I have learned is that even though I might consider an image to be "bad," there are still some redeeming qualities of most photos I have taken in this class. For Example: this photo of the vegetable on the right is blurry, but the lighting created some very cool shadows and highlights on the vegetable. While I was shooting these photos, I noticed the great lighting and was also able to capture the photo of the peppers, on the right. This photo ended up being one of my best from the entire class. Also in this class, I have learned that changing the perspective of an image can make quite the difference. For example: the photo on the left is just a brick sidewalk that I shot from above. There is no depth to the image and it is not interesting. However, the image on the right is a brick wall that was shot on an angle. I believe this perspective makes the photo way more interesting than the one on the left. Overall, both my ability to be a good photographer and my ability to produce great photos has increased dramatically since the start of this class. I am very grateful for everything I've learned and will definitely continue to take photos in the future!

2/27/2017 0 Comments Black and WhitePhoto assignment #7This week, I shot black and white. I shot some new photos, but mostly went back and edited some photos I had already taken for the class. I loved how just changing the color completely transformed some of my photos. Aperture: 4.5 Shutter Speed: 1/10 ISO: 200
For this photo, I increased the contrast and decreased the saturation and vibrance all the way to create the black and white look. 2/21/2017 0 Comments naturePhoto assignment #6This week I decided to shoot nature. I liked doing this shoot because it was nice to be outside, but being outside also meant things like the wind and the sun were important factors in my photos. I had to decrease the exposure in most of my photos and the wind made it hard for the camera to focus. Aperture: 4.0 Shutter Speed: 1/500 ISO: 100
For the edits, I decreased the exposure and increased the contrast and vibrance. 2/13/2017 0 Comments light paintingPhoto assignment #5For this week, I decided to try light painting. It was super fun, but it was also a challenge to keep the background dark while getting all the light in the frame. Aperture: 5.0 Shutter Speed: 5.0 ISO: 100
For the edits, I decreased the exposure and increased the contrast. 2/6/2017 0 Comments ANIMALPHOTO ASSIGNMENT #4This week, I shot some pictures of my dog, Scooby. I loved doing this shoot because I love my dog! Scooby was always moving during the shoot, so I had to increase my shutter speed this week. Aperture: 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/800 ISO: 200
Some I edits I did for this photo were increasing the contrast, increasing the highlights, decreasing the clarity, and increasing the overall exposure because of the fast shutter speed used. 2/3/2017 0 Comments school contextPhotoshop Assignment #2In this project, I took a photo of the school and transformed it into a beach scene. The goal was to learn how to work photoshop, and to do my best to make my edited photo look realistic.
1/30/2017 1 Comment architecturePhoto asignment #3This week I went to downtown Ann Arbor and shot some Architecture. It was started snowing in the middle of my shoot, so that made it hard with the lens getting snowflakes on it. Also, I was freezing cold so my hand shook, making some of my pictures a little blurry. Aperture: 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/60 ISO:100
For the editing of this photo, I increased the contrast, lessened the shadows, increased the highlights, and increased the clarity. 1/27/2017 0 Comments Photo retouchingPhotoshop #2In this assignment, I learned the basics of photoshop. The goal was to transform a photo of a car using basic and some advanced photoshop techniques. BEFORE AFTER
1/23/2017 0 Comments FoodPhoto assignment #2This week I chose to photograph food! I knew Whole Foods would have the most photogenic food, so I went there. While it was hard trying to get pictures in the middle of grocery shoppers, I am pretty proud of the results. Overall, I learned food needs a lot of light in order to look good. Aperture: 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/40 ISO: 200
For the editing of this photo, I increased the contrast, brightened the highlights, and deepened the shadows. 1/19/2017 0 Comments MacroPHoto assignment #1This week I took on the task of shooting all in macro mode. I had so much fun because typically I don't shoot things up close, so it was a nice change for me. However, this week did pose its challenges for me. I had the most trouble with some of my pictures being blurry because I was working so up close, and because, sadly, I don't have the steadiest hands. In the end, I learned how to get those pictures to be less blurry and had fun noticing all the small details in things around me. Aperture: 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/4 ISO: 100
For the editing of this photo, I increased the contrast to make the shadows and highlights pop more. I also made the shadows more prominent to almost make the photo more dramatic. Finally, I increased the clarity of the photo because macro was hard to do while still keeping the photo 100% clear. |
